Pupils Triumphant at Cross Country Championships | News And Newsletters | Pocklington School | Day & Boarding School In East Yorkshire

The beginning of 2025 has seen the arrival of many schools' cross country competitions and with it, a lot of success.

Pupils triumph at cross country championships

Over the past few months, we have had the privilege of entering many pupils of varying ages into cross country tournaments across the local area and further afield.

On Tuesday 28 January, 2025, our cross country team ran through bracing conditions to victories at the Humberside Schools' Cross Country Championships.

In spite of the relentless rain, pupils rose to the occasion and delivered outstanding performances across various age categories. Many of our runners battled through the rain to secure top finishes, a testament not only to their physical ability but also their mental tenacity in the face of such challenging conditions.

Despite the conditions, four of our Senior girls ran incredible races, securing themselves places at the English National Schools' Cross Country Championships. Imogen Stevens came first place in their race with Clara Stewart, Charlotte Ahlers and Oliva Ackermann securing 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively. This is a phenomenal achievement, and we wish them the best of luck in the National Championships.

Special mention must go to the incredible team spirit on display. Despite the cold and wet conditions, our athletes supported one another throughout the races, embodying true sportsmanship and determination.

Our U13 runners also took part in the Terrington Hall Cross Country Invitational on February 3rd. This exciting annual event, held at Terrington Hall School, saw 11 schools competing in a challenging 4km multi-terrain race.

The boys team showcased great skill and resilience throughout the race. Second Year Cameron led the team with an outstanding performance which saw him gain the silver medal. He was ably followed by First Years Nathan (26th), Stanley (38th), Ben (49th), George (50th), Eddie (50th) and Reuben (57th).

It was the girls’ team, however, that stole the show with a spectacular victory, securing the overall team title. First Year Anna delivered an impressive run to claim the bronze medal and she was closely followed by Emily (10th), Molly (11th), Kitty (13th), Grace (16th), Rosa (26th), Else (27th) and Esme (47th). Their confidence and teamwork were key to this well deserved triumph.

The event was not only a test of endurance but also a chance for young athletes to enjoy the fresh air and the spirit of competition. Congratulations to all our runners for their hard work and achievements!
