Charity Week 2025 across the Senior School was another fun-filled event, brimming with excitement, generosity and plenty of laughter.

A wonderful sense of community spirit...

We were fortunate to enjoy splendid weather, which saw pupils and staff coming together to support a variety of causes through inventive and engaging fundraising activities. The house charities for 2024/25 are: Bat Conservation Trust, Muscular Dystrophy International. Pocklington Rugby in the Community and Cancer Research UK

The atmosphere throughout the week reflected a wonderful sense of community spirit. Each year group contributed their time, effort, and creative ideas to ensure the event was a triumph. From the thrilling Chilli Challenge, where daring participants tested their spice tolerance, to the always popular cake stalls offering sweet delights for everyone, there was something for all to enjoy.

Perhaps the highlight of the week was the Laptop Raffle, which raised almost £900, thanks to the relentless efforts of Pocklington School teacher and Middle School Housemistress, Manique Wilson, and the Third Year Wilberforce team. The Staff Gunging event attracted a large audience, and the sight of colourful “slop” being poured over the Headmaster, Toby Seth,  was particularly memorable for all the spectators. The laughter and cheers from the crowd highlighted just how enjoyable fundraising can be.

The final event of the week, the Great Easter Bake Off, was eagerly anticipated. Both pupils and staff displayed their baking prowess, presenting an array of beautifully decorated cakes. The judges faced the challenging task of selecting a winner, but everyone who participated emerged as a victor. Our Star Baker was Gwenan Davies (Lower Sixth), with Best Taste awarded to Christopher Pick (Second Year), and Best Presentation going to Lisa De Klein (Fifth Year).

“Charity Week 2025 was an outstanding success, owing to the remarkable efforts of all involved. A huge thanks must go to Ruby Watson, our Upper Sixth Head of the Charity Committee, who has led the team with unwavering enthusiasm and dedication over the past year.
“The generosity and dedication exhibited made a significant difference, and we are thrilled to announce that the total amount raised for the week was £6,000.
“This amount is expected to grow, following the School Walk on Thursday 12 June, where pupils will seek sponsorship to support their house charities, as well as the upcoming ‘Wilber in Bloom’ event on Monday 7 June."
