At Pocklington School, we understand that young people develop their skills and character when they are given the opportunity to explore, create, innovate and work outside of their comfort zone.
The co-curricular programme plays a key role in the all-round education we offer our pupils
Our aim is to instil our core values of courage, truth, and trust in the characters of our pupils through a diverse range of co-curricular opportunities that will stretch and challenge them. We are committed to preparing our pupils with the skills and spirit necessary for them to flourish throughout their lives and we strive to help each child find their passion, nurture their talents and prepare them for success beyond their school days.
At the beginning of their journey in Senior School, each child is presented with the ‘POCK Challenge’ - an invitation to immerse themselves in at least one club or activity from each of the following categories: physical, outreach, creative, and knowledge. By doing so, we believe our pupils will discover more about their capabilities, broaden their skill set and develop their character, thus creating confident, intelligent and pragmatic individuals with bright futures ahead of them.
We have an extensive range of clubs and societies to choose from, including over 20 sports, nine music clubs and four drama productions throughout the year. Our pupils can also take part in inspiring activities such as archery, debating, classical Greek, coding and computer-aided design. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is available at bronze, silver and gold level, offering our pupils a challenging environment to develop their capabilities, as well as interpersonal skills that will serve them well throughout life.
Our international, musical, sporting and cultural trips are all very popular, in addition to our frequent trips to enrich academic study and include international sports tours, ski excursions, international expeditions and arts and culture trips. We invite your child to take advantage of the incredible opportunities on offer at Pocklington, both inside and outside the classroom. It is our hope that they will emerge from their time with us as well-rounded individuals, fully equipped to take on whatever challenges life may bring.
Pocklington School’s Combined Cadet Force has a strong reputation and provides its cadets with endless opportunities to step out of their comfort zone whilst challenging themselves in a safe and supervised environment.
Cadets are encouraged to grow into strong leaders and resourceful, confident communicators
Starting in Year 10, pupils have the option to join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) as a voluntary member. Our cadets meet once a week at a purpose-built centre on the School campus. Cadets can choose to participate in either the Army or RAF sections, each of which follows a disciplined core training programme, complemented by specialised activities such as basic field craft and infantry skills in the Army and flying experiences in the RAF. Alongside regular training, cadets participate in field days, overnight training exercises, competitions, flying days (RAF only), and will have the opportunity to enjoy adventurous training and summer camp residential weeks.
