Our promising Lower Sixth students from Pocklington School, Dan Rees Gay, Liv Marr, and Oscar Cowling, who have been diligently developing their business venture, Hear the Hound, as part of their BTEC enterprise course, have achieved notable success at the Young Enterprise Humber Finals.

Young Enterprise team triumphs at Humber Finals

The event, held in April 2025, at the prestigious Guildhall in Hull, featured Hear the Hound competing against the top eight Young Enterprise companies from the region. This was a fantastic opportunity for Dan, Liv, and Oscar to display their hard work and innovative business idea to a larger audience.

Hear the Hound has been making waves with their unique pet accessory retail business. They specialise in offering high-quality dog collars handcrafted by the Kenyan Masai, a project that also supports the vital work of the Samburu Trust. Recently, they have broadened their product range to include thoughtfully curated dog care packages and experienced significant success when they operated a stall at Selby Market in March.

At the Humber Finals, the team were put through their paces. They expertly set up an attractive trade stand, presented a comprehensive company report for evaluation, and faced a rigorous interview with a panel of experienced industry judges. The highlight of the day was their impressive company presentation, delivered to a large audience comprising business professionals, council members, teachers, and fellow students.

Throughout the day, Dan, Liv, and Oscar represented the School exceptionally well, demonstrating their passion, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit. Their dedication and collaborative efforts were deservedly acknowledged when they were awarded the Best Teamwork Trophy. They came incredibly close to securing the overall top award, a testament to the strength of their business and their performance on the day.

The students’ journey and success at the Humber Finals highlight what can be achieved through determination, creativity and collaborative spirit, within the supportive environment of Pocklington School.

"The School would like to extend huge congratulations to Dan, Liv and Oscar for their fantastic achievement.
Well done, Hear the Hound!
Your hard work and commitment are truly inspiring. We are so proud of your success in the Young Enterprise programme."
