Head of Boarding

Our four modern and homely boarding houses are located on our beautiful campus in Pocklington, close to the historic cities of York and Hull. Our boarders love the fact that they have continued access to many of the School’s facilities for study and relaxation at the end of the school day and certainly enjoy the privilege of the 50-acre site as their back garden!

Boarding pupils benefit from a daily routine, with structure and academic support, as well as the chance to participate in our innovative and exclusive boarding activity programme which is designed carefully to suit different interests and ages and is available seven days a week.

An integral part of the Pocklington boarding experience is the pastoral support provided by our houseparents and wellbeing team. They ensure that all health needs are taken care of in our purpose-built Health and Wellbeing Centre and nurture the overall wellbeing of our boarders.

Boarding teaches our young people to live and work together harmoniously and to develop an understanding of other cultures and opinions. It builds the self-confidence, resilience and emotional maturity that sets boarders apart long before they leave school, ready to take on their next challenge.

Our boarding provision offers flexibility for our families and can be tailored to individual needs, whether that be full-time, weekly, part-time or occasional boarding. Our junior boarding focuses on creating an enjoyable and welcoming community for children, with dedicated houseparents who create a warm and happy family atmosphere. The calm routine and consistent boundaries help children thrive. The houses provide a comfortable, relaxing environment, offering every child their own personal space within their bedroom. Pupils have continued access to many of the School’s facilities during evenings and weekends, along with a wide range of enrichment and weekend activities, exclusive to the boarding community.

BOARDING OPTIONS

Life as a boarder at Pocklington School goes beyond just academic learning. It is an opportunity for young people to develop and mature within a supportive community, where they are nurtured and cared for by our houseparents. Pupils enjoy ongoing access to many of the School’s amenities during evenings and weekends, in addition to a variety of enrichment and weekend activities, specifically designed for the boarding community. Our boarders experience life in a truly diverse community, where respect, friendship, trust and understanding form the foundation of our philosophy.

BOARDING OPTIONS

Boarding in Sixth Form can be highly beneficial. It eliminates the need for daily commutes to school, allowing students more time to concentrate on their studies. Boarding provides the opportunity to engage in a wide range of co-curricular, enrichment and weekend activities, which are designed to nurture students’ talents and prepare them for success after Pocklington School.

We offer a range of flexible boarding options for your child to participate in boarding life in a way that suits your family. A taster night can be booked for your child to experience our facilities and see if it works for you.
