Pocklington School Fifth and Sixth Form pupils have been fortunate enough to showcase a wonderful collection of artworks at local restaurant Pane e Vino. Pupils have drawn inspiration from various starting points and themes, resulting in a diverse and captivating display.
Pocklington pupils shine as art exhibition delights local restaurant
The exhibition highlights the popularity of figurative work at Pocklington School, often forming the core of pupils’ projects. The pieces on display utilise a range of techniques, from lino-printing and etching, to traditional oil painting and spray paint stencilling inspired by graffiti. Throughout their GCSE and A-levels, pupils are encouraged to experiment with different materials and techniques, exploring all aspects of fine art.
Pane e Vino has been in Pocklington for 25 years this year and over that time have welcomed hundreds of Pocklington School pupils and their families and teachers. They've even given some pupils their first part-time job!
Candido Cogoni, who runs Pane e Vino with his brother, Salvatore, told us that:
When we were asked if we'd be happy to display some of the students artwork, we didn't have to think very long about it. We have the walls and they have the talent. Customers have certainly been intrigued and delighted by it - it's quite a talking point. Together, the canvases make a very bold impression when you walk into the restaurant."
It's been a real pleasure working with the school staff in creating this exhibition space and we're hoping that in years to come a very famous artist will look back and tell everyone where their work was displayed for the very first time... a little restaurant in an East Yorkshire town. That would make us very proud.”
Candido Cogoni, CO-Owner of Pane E Vino
Head of Art, Dan Cimmermann commented that:
Seeing our students' work displayed in the local area is incredibly rewarding and is a true testament to all of their hard work and creativity. We are immensely grateful to Pane e Vino for offering us this wonderful opportunity. It's not only a proud moment for the pupils, but also for the entire school community as we celebrate the talents and achievements of our young artists."
The artwork is available to view for all patrons of Pane e Vino, and we are enormously grateful to them for giving this wonderful opportunity to our students.
